We're taking a change in direction and cancelling this year's Trunk-Or-Treat
to focus our energies on the coming Christmas holidays. Thanks to generous donations of bags of candy, we'll have treat bags for the kids and a bowl of candy for the kids-at-heart on Sunday! Stay tuned for details about our Christmas Angel plans. Join us Saturday, September 25th via our Facebook live stream for a very special event
featuring a keynote address from Sri Viswayogi Viswamjee Maharaj, or as we know him - Swamiji. The live stream will begin on our livestream platform at 10am. Please join the Event on our page and utilize that to invite others to join as well. Gather your furred, finned, or feathered friends and come by for a pet blessing
at Unity Church of Practical Christianity in Cordova. Rev. Mickey will be under the awning in the parking lot, so rain or shine! All faiths and pets welcome! You Are Invited to a Special Event at UCPC In furtherance of our initiative addressing diversity, inclusiveness and social justice issues, the Beloved Community Builders cordially invites you to a very impactful weekend here at UCPC. Saturday, October 9th from 10 am to 2:00 pm, we will be hosting a workshop featuring Rev. Charles Perry. The workshop theme will be, “Creating the Psychologically Safe Church”, where we will explore ways of removing the fear from our interactions, and replacing that fear with respect and curiosity. The workshop is free to the public and light refreshments will be served. A love offering will be accepted. Sunday, October 10th at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Perry will bring the message entitled, “Speaking Truth“. Due to seating limitations (50**), and to assist us in providing sufficient refreshments, please call the church at (901) 753-1463 or email us to let us know you will be attending the Saturday event. **Due to the continued Covid infection rates in our area, and exercising the abundance of caution that has served us well, we will be following our current "Go slow to go fast" mask required and social distancing policy. Due to low registration numbers because of concerns for our current Covid/Delta Variant numbers, we are postponing this event.
Please check back for updates. Thank you.
What is a RAKtivist?
From the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation's website: ‘RAKtivist’ is short for ‘Random Acts of Kindness activist’. Think of RAKtivists like kindness ambassadors—and, like all ambassadors, they’re a part of an active, global community who are helping to make kindness the norm™. What is a Random Act of Kindness? A random act of kindness is a nonpremeditated, inconsistent action designed to offer kindness towards the outside world. The phrase "practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty" was written by Anne Herbert on a placemat in Sausalito, California in 1982. It was based on the phrase "random acts of violence and senseless acts of cruelty". Herbert's book Random Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty was published in February 1993 speaking about true stories of acts of kindness. The phrase is commonly expressed as the suggestion to "Practice random acts of kindness." There are groups around the world who are sharing acts of spontaneous kindness. What does #RAKkinThe901 mean? During the month of August, as we focus on our spiritual power of will, it is our intention to use that power to engage in Random Acts of Kindness throughout our MidSouth community. Throughout the month we'll be sharing resources and ideas from the RAK Foundation's website. AND we encourage you to share your ideas or actual RAKs you perform to fill out or Kindness Tree in the lobby! |
