What is a Labyrinth?
A labyrinth is not a maze. It has only one path to the center and back out. It is unicursal (one line). The way in is the way out. The path twists and turns back on itself many times before reaching the center. Once at the center, there is only one way back out. It symbolizes a journey to a predetermined destination (such as a pilgrimage to a holy site), or the journey through life from birth to spiritual awakening.
We are all on the path exactly where we need to be. The labyrinth is a model of that path. It is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The labyrinth represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world.
With a labyrinth there is only one choice to be made. The choice is to enter or not. A more passive, receptive mindset is needed. The choice is whether or not to walk a spiritual path. At its most basic level the
labyrinth is a metaphor for the journey to the center of your deepest self and back out into the world with a broadened understanding of who you are.
The labyrinth is recognized as an ancient symbol, for the Feminine nature of the Divine, it represents the cycles of life, death, and rebirth. It is a meditation revered since the ancient times as an archetypal mandala for a journey of consciousness, a search for knowledge and truth, a mental focusing tool, “a playground for allowing intuition to take flight”, and for its transformative nature and healing powers.
All are welcome to come and walk our labyrinth any time you feel the need. The path to the labyrinth is located at the far east end of the parking lot on the other side of the gate. Unless special arrangements are made with our office staff to accommodate mobility issues, no vehicles are allowed on this path.
Our labyrinth is located in a densely wooded area, which is not treated with broad spectrum insecticides as we do not wish to harm the bees, butterflies, and other beneficial inhabitants of nature. It is recommended one bring personal insect repellant if you are sensitive to mosquitoes or ticks.
As with any conscious presence in nature, we ask that those enjoying this space take only peace and leave only your positive energy behind.
