Once again, we are partnering with Memphis Angels for their annual "Love Thy Neighbor Day" on Saturday, November 28th (Thanksgiving Weekend). This is an opportunity for us to come together and take our love and unity to those in our community who are experiencing homelessness.
Throughout November, we are collecting the following items:
Schedule of Events: Friday, November 27th at 11am: Please meet Billy "Hopper" Dean here at UCPC to help sort out the mountain of clothes that have been donated. all volunteers are asked to wear masks. Sorting tables will be set up to maintain appropriate social distancing. Saturday, November 28th 11:30am - 2:30pm: Join us at First United Methodist Church located at 204 N. 2nd Street (corner of 2nd St. and Exchange Ave.) from 11:30am til 2:30pm where we will distribute the winter wear, and most of all our love, with a community that needs it more than ever this year. Due to the updated COVID related restrictions in place as of Monday 11/23/2020 we will not be serving food. Memphis Angels is the result of a deep love and empathy felt by Billy “Hopper” Dean, and his wife and inspiration Bonnie, for those in our community who are currently experiencing homelessness. This grassroots, boots-on-the-ground organization seeks to not only provide food, clothing, and hygiene supplies to those in this community, but also to truly see The Christ in them, meeting them where they are and giving them the love and respect we all deserve.
Unity Church of Practical Christianity is privileged to partner with Memphis Angels by coming together several times a year to collect and distribute needed items. Through generous donations made to Memphis Angels, we now have a small food pantry here at the church. If you or someone you know find yourself in need of non-perishable food items to sustain you for a few days, please reach out to us. If you would like to join us for any of our activities bookmark this webpage, follow us on Facebook, or email our office to be subscribed to our weekly email blast. “We have a deep love for everyone, we were not put on earth to serve our own needs but instead the needs of all those around us. When you truly love others first, it is not until then, you become a light in the darkness of the world.” Hopper Dean Co-Founder Memphis Angels |
