A thought to top off the month of February when we focused on Expanding Our Giving and Receiving.
Be sure to check out the main page of our web site for the March topics for the Sunday Service. Also be sure to go to our bookstore page to order One Mind by Larry Dossey and stop by our church bookstore to pick up a copy of Keep A True Lent while it's still available. Of course, if we run out, you'll still be able to order it through our bookstore page. On March 9, Rev. Palmer will be presenting the Sunday Session on Expanding Our Consciousness where you will be able to ask questions concerning consciousness and discuss these books as well. The Annual Membership Meeting was a great success. The members received reports from the Board President, Barbara Thompson, on the many exciting changes that have happened over the last year during the process of birthing the Unity Church of Practical Christianity, including receiving the perfect minister, Rev. Lawrence Palmer, for our new church. The Board Treasurer, Lucie Thompson, explained the financial report for 2013 and the proposed budget for 2014.
There were 57 voting members present, and votes were taken to select new Board members to fill the two available positions. The final result was the selection of Anne Weeks and Joanne Johnson as incoming Board members. Deb Ford will be an alternate. The 2015 Nominating Team Chair and the alternate for selecting nominees for the 2015 Board are Joy Thierman-Nichols and Sharon Gary. The new Co-Coordinators of Volunteers, Sharon Gary and Paulette Williamson, were introduced and shared with the members their vision of their new office. Rev. Palmer gave everyone a heads-up on what to expect in the coming year and how to be a part of that process. Sunday MorningsThis group meets at 9:15 AM in the Prayer Chapel prior to the Sunday service. They are currently reading Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life by Karen Armstrong. Wednesday AfternoonsThis group meets from 1:30 - 3:30 in the Prayer Chapel. They are currently reading Jesus by Tricia McCannon and Prosperity by Charles Fillmore. REMEMBER: If not currently available in our church bookstore, these books can be ordered here by clicking on the book cover if it is showing on the page or using the Amazon search box to locate your desired book. Ordering from our bookstore page allows you to support the church through your purchase at Amazon.
If you're looking for Unity Tidbits, you can now find it under the UCPC tab on the navigation bar.
Take note of the new page titled "Conscious Giving." I recently came across a quote that fit very well with our topic of giving and receiving. "What you are is God's gift to you; what you do with yourself is your gift to God." We have received the raw material of our self along with the opportunity to shape and wield that self as we live this human life. We then give this creation of our self to Spirit in service and in joyful living. That sounds like a pretty good deal! As most of have noticed there Have been a few changes since September, and there will be more thoroughly considered changes along with un-changes. One thing we changed with the intention of helping the end of the Sunday service go smoother was to join hands without moving into the circle. Well, we just could not capture that same circle experience without the circle. So we are un-changing that part of the service. There is an important event in the life of our community coming up. On February 23 we will be sharing in our Annual Membership Meeting. Church members have received letters with the pertinent information regarding the meeting. Among other things we will be electing two new Board members. These are important decisions when we choose our leaders. Anyone may attend the meeting, but only members have the privilege of actively participating. One last thing - I trust your experiencing of giving and receiving has been enhanced by your mindfulness. When we lift and expand our vision above the old and look toward the new, we grow, we heal, we transform! John Wesley said, "I judge all things only by the price they shall gain in eternity." Blessings, Lawrence Click HERE to view the WISH LIST.
In January and February we have been focusing our community outreach on collecting contributions to the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis. Check out the Wish List for specific, 'most used' items. All non-perishable food, paper and cleaning supplies, and other miscellaneous items are gratefully accepted. Volunteers are requested to help deliver items collected during the first week of March. |
