Yet another successful Ladies' Night Out!

We may not have created world peace, but we came eerily close by soothing our souls with animated conversation and laughter.

Guys' Night Out Making A Change

Read Now

Picture
Guys' Night Out is making a change!

Instead of meeting every week, we guys have decided to meet once a MONTH on the second Tuesday. The next meeting will be September 9, 2014, at Jason's Deli on Chickering Lane, just off Germantown Parkway.

This change should make it easier for all the men in the church to carve out time for Guys' Night Out each month, which should help our group to grow.

We all get busy with our lives, our jobs, our families, and our normal social commitments. The benefits of meeting regularly with other men can help reduce stress, instill confidence, and make you more optimistic about your life. You are important and deserve some guy-time. Talking with other guys gives you a perspective that you may not get from your family or your significant other. BE KIND to yourself. Bookmark this time on your calendar!

Mad Hatter Tea Party A Huge Success!

Read Now

`No room! No room!' the March Hare and the Hatter cried out when they saw Alice coming.

`There's plenty of room!' said Alice indignantly, and she sat down in a large armchair at one end of the table.

The Mad Hatter's Tea Party drew one hundred and eight people on Saturday, and yes, there was plenty of room! There were hats galore: Victorian tea party hats, garden party hats, Sunday dress hats, turbans, Indian head veils, wizard hats, a yin yang top hat, and even a metal colander gracefully decorated with flowers! The male judges wore black tuxedos with ceremonial white wigs.

Large playing cards were tucked into plants and hung on the walls. Billie Gholson allowed us to enjoy her collection of paintings of women in hats. There were antique accessories and other curios on display that provided ambiance while arousing our interest. The creativity of the decorations by Laura Wren and the committee members was a sight to behold!

Ah, the food! Such a delightful selection of finger foods provided by women in the church for the festivities. Teas were available, of course, to be enjoyed properly in tea cups of various styles, sizes, and colors.

We were also graced by the presence of the Mad Hatter and Alice in Wonderland. Alice was dressed in the traditional pinafore, and the Mad Hatter wore his trademark hat. The Mad Hatter did not put the Dormouse's head in a teapot, but he did keep Mona Winfrey, the emcee, on her toes!

Throughout the tea party we were delighted by the ongoing fashion show, sporting the Dangerous Curves Collection, a line of apparel by M.G. Ballard Designs. Dangerous Curves garments are made by women in the USA who sew to earn a living or to earn extra income. You can learn more about them and buy their garments here: http://www.dangerouscurvescollection.com/ Three of our local women (Pearl Smitherman, Paulette Williamson, and Ann West) along with two women from Dangerous Curves modeled. With all that enthusiasm, you might just see them on Project Runway next season!

"I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date! No time to say hello, goodbye! I'm late! I'm late! I'm late!"
If you missed this year's gala, don't forget to get your tickets early next year!
