Thanks to everyone who stayed to take down the decorations to make way for the New Year! Thanks especially to Billie Gholson for spear-heading the operation! Sunday, December 29th, is the official "take-down" day for the Christmas decorations around the church. If you weren't able to be there when the decorations were put up, this is your chance to help! Between Noon and 3:00 pm, we will be dismantling the Christmas tree and storing away all the tree decorations. In addition, there are decorations inside and outside the church that need to be taken down and stored away in the attic. We need all the help we can get! So hang around after the service and join in the fun as we prepare the church to move forward into the New Year! Before we jump into the excitement of New Year's Eve and Day, I invite you to take a brief respite with me. Before we become immersed in the rush of 2014, let us take a moment to just breathe and be still. Sunday I will be sharing a sermon entitled "A Gentle Breath". We will honor a little piece of peace in the space betwixt what has been and what is to come. As we moved through Advent in preparation for Christmas, let us now utilize this Sunday to prepare our hearts for 2014. There will be many marvelous experiences and adventures that nourish us and challenge us. There will be new things, and there will be familiar things. In all things there will be you, there will be me, and there will certainly be Spirit!! One last word of encouragement from scripture - "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--that good, pleasing and perfect will." Blessings, Lawrence
This Saturday afternoon Rev. Palmer will be discovering one of Memphis' greatest treasures: Starry Nights! Only he'll be doing it in a way most of us never have - on foot at the Starry 4K Run/Walk through Starry Nights. Rev. Palmer will be here at the church at 3:30 Saturday afternoon to meet up with those interested in carpooling. Online Registration: $20 per person through midnight tonight HERE! Race Day Registration: $25 per person (cannot guarantee race shirt) 12pm-4pm at Shelby Farms Park Visitors Center. This is a fun way to take your time enjoying the lights of Starry Nights! Come on out and join Rev. Palmer and extend the joy of the season for one more night! The Bookstore needs two (2) dedicated people (men or women) who are each willing to commit one Sunday a month to serving as cashier in the bookstore. There will be training offered in December. The Sunday Shift cashiers are required to arrive before the service to count their starting cash, and then they open the bookstore from 11:30 to 12:30, afterwards closing out the register according to procedures in place. If you can commit to one year of service, only once a month, please contact B.J. Remi at 901-461-3131. Join us as we strive to support the ministry by generating interest through books and audio in the paths to personal spiritual growth. I have several opportunities to extend to you. We have created the new positions of Coordinator of Sacred Service, Coordinator of Publicity and Coordinator of Art. Please let me know when Spirit stirs your heart into service. I will be looking forward to hearing from you.
