![]() A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water. In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil without saying a word. In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her granddaughter, she asked, "Tell me what do you see?" ....................................................................................................................... ![]() Greetings, Everyone seems to agree that time is going by so fast now. I certainly do not want to encourage that experience, but I do want to point you to a couple of months down the road. September will be our Month of Prayer. We will be sharing a celebration of the World Day of Prayer in our own community while prayer events will be happening all over the planet. Here is a link to connect you with some information about what is happening within our larger Unity community: http://www.worlddayofprayer.org/ Keep your eyes and ears open for details about how we will be observing this powerful day. Blessings, Lawrence ![]() We so enjoy sharing the Christ Consciousness with the young people. We draw from an extensive library of Sunday School resource materials created specifically for them. Our teachers are committed to preparing a fun and informative hour for your child each week. More often than not, the teachers delight and sometimes marvel at their responses. We invite you to bring your child and sit in with us. We promise you that you will be pleased by the experience of seeing their energetic and spontaneous participation. Please drop your children off at the Isabel House between 10:15 and 10:30 so that we can make the most of our time together. It is our blessing to be of service to your child. Linda and Keita, Youth Education Coordinators ![]() Dear Friends, Some of you are aware that I have been the Bookstore Manager since shortly after Rev. Palmer's arrival at Unity Church of Practical Christianity. I will be stepping back from this position at the end of July. Barbara Thompson has enthusiastically agreed to take the position, with the approval of Rev. Palmer, beginning Aug 1. I would like to take a moment to thank all those volunteers who have made it possible to open the door of the bookstore to customers. Our Cashier Supervisor is B.J. Remi. Sandy Taylor and Sharon Moore have been volunteering since last year. Peyton, B.J.'s granddaughter, stepped up as a cashier this summer, but she is returning to college. We recently gained a new volunteer: Sharon Gary. During the week, Julianne Tutko handles the cashier duties for the bookstore. Our bookstore is divided into sections:
We have also made it possible for members and others to purchase books through the bookstore page on the web site, which will also benefit the church. As more and more of us support the bookstore, it will be possible to expand the bookstore's inventory onsite. I know that all of you will also support Barbara Thompson as she moves forward with the bookstore vision. All the best, Dannye Williamsen
In July and August we are returning our community outreach focus on collecting contributions to the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis. There is a Wish List available with specific, 'most used' items. All non-perishable food, paper and cleaning supplies, and other miscellaneous items are gratefully accepted.
Volunteers are needed to help deliver items collected during the first week of September. • This month, Rev. Palmer is celebrating 40 years in the ministry. He began church work as a Music and Youth director and after several years was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1974 at the ripe age of 22. After 16 years of service in Baptist churches in Mississippi and Kentucky, he discovered Unity.
In 1990 he entered the Unity Ministerial Education Program and graduated in 1992. He served as minister in Unity churches, and during this time he served in many leadership positions for the Association of Unity Churches and two Unity regions. Most recently, he served in the Unity Church in the Rockies in Colorado Springs, CO, from 2002 to 2011. He joined us at Unity Church of Practical Christianity in 2013. • He shares this time with Charles and Myrtle Fillmore's launching of “a journal of progress,” which is how Charles and Myrtle Fillmore described their groundbreaking spiritual magazine, Modern Thought. Its launch in 1889 marked the start of the Unity movement. This year marks 125 years of the Unity movement. Happy anniversary to Rev. Palmer and to Unity! |
